Biography of the Mayor of Mesa Neighborhood

Theodoros Antoniou was born in Limassol on 7 March 1965. He is married to Thoi Leonidou Antoniou, a teacher, and has three children.

After graduating from the St. Nicolas (4th) Lyceum in Limassol, he completed his military service and went to study in New York, where, in 1989, he obtained his BS in Accounting from St John’s University.

In 1989, he began his professional career, working in the New York financial sector for five years, while simultaneously undertaking postgraduate studies in Business Administration. In 1991, he gained an MBA in Finance, also from St John’s University.

As a student, he played an active role in the Cypriot Students Association of America and he served as Chairman of the Board in 1990-1991. He was also actively involved in sport, both in New York and later in Cyprus, particularly with Sports Academies and young people.

In 1993, he returned to Cyprus, where he worked until 2011 as Manager of several major corporations. At the same time, he served on the Board of Directors of numerous public companies in the tourism and financial sectors.

He also continued his active involvement in sport was a member of the Board of Apollon Football Club from 2000 until 2010, including a year as Chairman (2005-2006 season) and Chairman of Apollon Football (Public) Ltd in 2009. He has long been actively involved in various charitable institutions and organizations.

In the December 2011 municipal elections, he was elected as Mayor of Mesa Geitonia. In his capacity as Mayor, he is also a member of the Sewerage Board of Limassol -Amathus (SBLA), the Water Board of Limassol and the Limassol Tourism Company, and Secretary of the G.N. Kalogeropoulos Foundation.

In December 2016, he was reelected as Mayor of Mesa Geitonia for a second five-year term and the following month (January 2017) was elected as Vice President of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities. In May 2017, he was appointed as President of the Limassol Waste Management Board.

On 5 May 2017, he was appointed as an alternate member of the Cyprus Delegation to the European Committee of the Regions and participates in the Commission for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture (SEDEC)
